Blue Pyrenees

Tasting Notes
Colour & Aroma

Dark garnet heart, graduating to a lighter ruby hue. Warm, rich ripe fruit, showing elements of spice, liquorice, with a balanced hint of eucalypt. The power of the aroma is extended by high quality ‘vanilla’ character that is delivered from the oak barrels and a trace of coconut from the proportion of American Oak used.

Flavour

The front of the palate displays ripe, luscious fruit leading to a mid-palate of beautifully balanced spiced fruit and vanilla from the oak which transitions to a firm, yet balanced acid line and soft integrated tannins extend to back palate to leave the wine lingering with wonderful persistence.

Winemaking Notes

The Richardson Reserve Shiraz wines are produced from the most exceptional parcels of fruit as identified by the Blue Pyrenees team; the same philosophy established in the 1990’s to create exceptional Blue Pyrenees red wine as a tribute to the late Colin Richardson.  This wine was vinified and then, matured in 28% new oak, before final blending and preparation for bottling. The nominated 2018 Shiraz grapes always displayed intense varietal characters as they reached optimum ripeness and balance on the vine, in the ideal grape growing season of 2017 / 2018. Vinification included warm fermentation, and extended skin contact for 2 weeks, before 24 months maturation in new and two-year-old French and American oak barriques, ensuring complexity, smoothness and integration of all the flavour components and fine tannin, before bottling in June 2020.
